specialist in gut and liver diseases is currently a staff member in the Department of Digestive Diseases in the Hospital Doctor Josep Trueta, the most important hospital in the Girona area, where he was appointed in 2001.

He obtained his MD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1993 and became a specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 1997 at the University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol (Barcelona). That year, he was awarded with the prestigious “La Caixa” Fellowship for post-graduate studies that allowed him to spend a period of 4 years (1998-2001) as a research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA) specializing in the process of liver regeneration. The result of this study led to the awarding of a PhD “Cum Laude” in 2004. More recently, he has also studied and done research at the University of Texas Hospital (Houston, USA), Paoli-Calmette Cancer Centre (Marseille, France) and Barcelona’s Hospital Clínic to perfect the technique of ultrasound endoscopy. In 2009, he was appointed professor of Digestive Physiology in the School of Medicine of Girona University. Currently, in the field of research, he leads studies in colonic bacterial flora of patients with inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer in collaboration with the Department of Bacterial Ecology.

Member of the Catalan and Spanish Gastroenterology Associations, Spanish and European Groups of Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and the American Association of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Spanish Association on Endoscopic Ultrasound.

His area of expertise encompasses gut diseases, with attention to oesophageal reflux, gastritis and other stomach disorders, colon problems, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and digestive endoscopy with special attention on endoscopic ultrasound.
